Hay-Scented Fern (Dennstaedtia punctilobula) is a wandering deciduous native that will eagerly fill voids and available open spaces in a partially sunny to shady location. Look for it along roadsides in the midwest and east where it brings its bright greenery in the summer followed by russet fall color. Small glands trim the 18″ to 30″ fronds. When brushed, the fronds give off the fragrance of freshly-mowed grass.
