Jimmy Dyce’s Broad Wood Fern

Dryopteris dilatata 'Jimmy Dyce'

Jimmy Dyce's Broad Wood Fern

Dryopteris dilatata ‘Jimmy Dyce’, Dyce’s wood fern, was discovered by (surprise) Britain’s late Jimmy Dyce on the Isle of Arran in 1969. This cultivar is welcomed for its dwarfish size with evergreen triangular fronds normally maturing in a range between 12 to 18 inches. In addition its unusual foliage tones of deep blue to forest green contribute a unique opportunity for variation in the woodland design. It is quite comfortable throughout cold winters and is successfully grown as an understory plant in Zones 4
