Marsh Fern Thelypteris palustris I ran into a vacationer from north of Edmonton, Canada (read Zone 2, COLD) down in Miami once. He recognized Marsh Fern growing there as one of the ferns that grew in marshes near his home. This 2 foot blue green fern looks more delicate than it is and can colonize a large area, which is great for a low maintenance woodland. Fortunately it is easy to contain and does mix well with other plants. Like most of the ferns that are found in wet areas, it likes more water as the light level increases. Mid border mixed with flowering bulbs, iris and other thin tall plants or naturalized around boulders and stumps in a cool woodland garden brings out the best in this fern. |
